Graduate and Start the Verification Process

Graduate From an Accredited Nursing School

  • Internationally educated nurses are required to graduate from an accredited nursing education program in their countries. 
  • You will need to submit your official transcripts to the state nursing board(s) directly or through CGFNS International.
  • After determining the authenticity of your documents and that what you’ve learned is comparable to U.S. nursing standards, you will be given authorization to take your licensure examination.

Demonstrate English Proficiency

  • Foreign educated nurses must demonstrate their english proficiency mandated by federal law. 
  • You can demonstrate English language proficient by taking one of the following exams;

IELTS overall  score 65 (academic format), IELTS spoken band of 7.0

or     

TOEFL iBT Total score of  83, TOEFL iBT speaking section 26 


Note: NYS BON does not require any English proficiency exam. However, Nurses who wish to obtain a green card may be required to take an English proficiency exam as part of their Green Card process.

Licensure Exam

  • In order to obtain a professional license to work as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the United States, you will need to pass The National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-RN).
  • The NCLEX-RN examinations are currently offered internationally in the following locations:  Australia  Canada  England  Hong Kong  India Japan Mexico Philippines  Puerto Rico  Taiwan  TURKEY
  • After passing NCLEX-RN, you will be eligible to obtain green card.
